Back in August the children and I visited my sister, Lucy, in Knutsford and on one not so sunny day she suggested a visit to Tatton Park.
We arrived and discovered that they were celebrating Roald Dahl with a number of different objects from his books around the grounds. The boys were eager to go on a trail in the woods looking for ‘The Enormous Crocodile’. Set up on a trail that was suitable for my pushchair we followed footprints through the woods, and read the placards explaining the story. We did mange to survive the crocodile .
We headed off to the courtyard and a sneaky coffee and cake, only to find a replica ‘Writing Hut’. Also, the biggest chair we had ever seen which we believe was the BFG’s. We found the entrance to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, but, sadly, no chocolate. The Twits living room and the glass elevator were nearby, and we also found a mysterious fox’s tail sneaking up from under ground.
Whilst walking around looking at all that was on show, Lucy and I enjoyed explaining all the stories to the boys, who were fascinated by it all. That evening we even sat and read some of Roald Dahl’s short stories.
The majority of events are running until the 2nd October.
